Let’s say you have been selling eco-friendly products.
You’ve got a good website in place, a blog, a Facebook and Twitter account and everything seems to be going well so far. Do you refine your website some more? You don’t, because to you, everything seems fine and dandy.
But you want MORE people talking about your products and telling their friends and family. You want word-of-mouth to spread naturally.
So how do you get more people to your site and buy your great eco-friendly stuff? A website that “looks okay” to you could be a pretty boring website to someone else. And boring doesn’t help you to get word of mouth, does it?
So what do you do?
Refine your website. Make it better.
These days, you cannot content yourself with “okay”, or “fine”. Your website and everything in it should be extremely engaging and incredibly tangible! Make your entire website a buzz generator. Every page should have a certain mood, designed to elicit a specific thought in the visitor’s mind. You want them to be thinking, “this is really cool!” or “wow!”.
Remember the AIDA model?
When you refine your website, go back to it. Get their Attention with your landing page. Hold their Interest and lead them through your site with great navigation so they don’t wander off and click away. Make them Desire to know more by featuring some interesting bits on every page. Get them to take Action with your call to action (to buy or to share) and make it easy for them to proceed to checkout when they do buy.
On the other hand, if you already have a great website that gets raving reviews, congratulations! Just keep it current. Surprise your loyal visitors from time to time with a new offer or a great new blog post, and they’ll surely keep coming back to you!

Hi Elmar,
You know I have wondered about this very subject lately. I was thinking of giving my website a make-over. But then, I received a raving review just a couple of days ago about the layout and graphics and now I’m not so sure anymore.
I’ll wait till after my vacation to decide
By the way, thanks for stopping by. It was very nice to meet you.

Personally I think your blog is just great Ilka! I completely agree with the other person, the lay-out and the graphics are very good!
I think you have a great idea, wait till after your vacation to decide! You’ll have a clearer vision after you took some “distance” from it!

I agree with you about the importance of updating your blog or site, but what is your opinion about color scheme? Do you change your site’s look entirely or do you stick to the same colors?

Hi Ashley,
.
Well it really depends, if you have a distinct color for branding purposes then I think you should stick with it and just focus on improvising the layout. But, if you don’t, then you can experiment a bit and see which color scheme you would want to play around. Also, I suggest not to use too much colors on your site as it can be too distracting. You can check a color chart as reference and see which colors complements each other. This can be helpful in selecting the right color scheme. I hope this answers your question and thanks for dropping by

Refining your website is a good thing. The site needs to look good aswell as it must be professionally written, with SEO buiilt into it. Each page should have a key word draw and needs to be monitized with SEO. The the content reviewed professionally.

Hi Jc,
Thanks for your message. Actually I checked it in the Avant web browser and it seems to work ok with me.
Just let me know if you keep having problems with it.
Personally I use Firefox, which is also a very good browser.
